Application Process For A Service Dog
All applicants have the right to be considered for a Service Dog without regard to race, color, creed, gender, religion, age and any other category protected by state law or local laws. An application can be denied and the application process terminated at any time for other reasons.
The multi-step application process does not happen overnight. Finding the right dog for the right person takes time. All applicants are notified on a timely application process.
The steps in the application process are as follows:
Step 1: Application - Applicant completes and submits an Application and $25 application fee (non-refundable).
Step 2: Complete Application Received - CST receives and reviews the complete application, including supporting documents. A review of all application materials is conducted and a determination is made whether to accept the applicant. The applicant is advised and the accepted persons application materials are kept on file until a suitable canine canidate is available.
Step 3: Interview - The applicant is invited to an in-person interview or the interview will take place by phone or video.
Step 4: Second part of application process - Request for a Bio, Pre-interview form is to be completed, a picture of person and the personality profiles to be completed.
Step 5: Need Assessment - CST makes a needs assessment and sends a cost proposal to client regarding cost of tasks to be trained.
Step 6: Client pays 1/2 down based on agreement with proposal.
Step 7: Dog is chosen and trained.
Step 8: Fitting with service dog and training to use service dog correctly. "Team Training" will be conducted in Independence, MO. unless other arrangements are made.
Step 9: Public handling test to see how the dog and individual interact on a public outing.
Step 10: Final payment and certification of service dog team by CST. The client must approve of dog and dog's training prior to payment.
